Description: These bottles were found on the grounds of the Zhou B Art Center during renovation in 2025. The building was constructed in 1905 as a public school for Black children, and one or two were ink bottles, but a few are from the days of restricted alcohol sales, maybe from a nearby jazz club. I wonder who last touched them. The patina of decades was lit by the sunset from my third-story studio window.

Description: This painting is a tribute to artist Wayne Thiebaud (1920-2021), who did a work that inspired me called "Heavy Traffic" (1988). His uses of color to portray what would otherwise be a boring part of California life is fascinating. This part of I-670 runs under the convention center here in Kansas City, and a photo I snapped one day husband was the basis for my interpretation.

This view of I-670 from under the Kansas City convention center. I was inspired by the boldly colored cityscapes of artist Wayne Thiebaud (1920 - 2021).
About the Artist:
I have come to painting later in life, though I have volunteered at the Nelson-Atkins for 20 years. Color is my passion, and my favorite subjects are often found close to my heart and home.
