About the Artist:
Kansas City-based artist Milton Lovell Christian creates evocative oil paintings shaped by a unique blend of rigid technical precision and deeply rooted historical narrative. Raised in Colorado by a Black American World War II veteran Grandfather and his German war-survivor Grandmother, Milton grew up at the literal intersection of profound historical contrast. This early exposure to dual, surviving perspectives instills his work with themes of resilience, memory, and identity. Before committing to the canvas, Milton spent decades mastering art on the human form as a licensed professional tattoo artist. This lifelong creative dedication is balanced by a robust background in technical infrastructure, service, and engineering support. In 2023, Milton translated this lifetime of anatomical discipline and technical acumen into fine art, teaching himself the complex chemistry of oil painting. Now semi-retired from tattooing, Milton works from their studio in Kansas City, Kansas—his home since 2006.
