About the Piece:

This portrait is made completely by using her name. no Lines. When Breonna was killed, I would wake up with her and her family heavy on my heart, enraged by her murder, the lack of accountability, and complete absence of justice. I thought: I should do a tribute for her like I did for Sandra. Then my heart broke, because Sandra should have been the last one. But then there was: Charleena Lyles Shukri Ali Atatiana Jefferson And so many more It’s times like this that I think back to a conversation I had with my mentor/ professor years ago, right after the murder of Freddie Gray. I asked him “do you honestly think we’ll ever win this fight against injustice?” He responded, “even if we don’t, I’m not willing to go down without a fight. Are you?” The answer is no, I’m not… are you?
