Title of Piece: Big Rock Candy Mountain
Artist: Don Wilkison
Size: 18 by 24 inches (unframed); 22.5 by 28.5 (framed)
Medium: colored pencil on bristol
Price: $450
About the Piece:
Big Rock Candy Mountain references an idyllic world in which everything is fair, riches are easy, and bluebirds fly over rainbows. Reflecting on my time as a miner, the lore of striking the "motherlode" often led me to imagine that all stones—including those used to build Kansas City—contained hidden diamonds and emeralds.
About the Artist:
A long-time Kansas City resident, my recent work softens the hard edges of a discordant world by recasting universal themes through the lens of science, color-field theory, and humor.
