For this year’s annual Resident Exhibition, Celebration, the artists of Zhou B Art Center Kansas City were invited to explore a fundamental question: What does it mean to celebrate?
From this inquiry, a rich array of reflections emerges on identity, heritage, community, resilience, and creative expression. Each artist considered where celebration resides in their life and practice: in quiet triumphs, meaningful milestones, daily rituals, or the simple joys that connect us to our shared humanity.
The exhibition presents works that are both diverse and deeply personal: some vibrant and exuberant, others intimate and contemplative. Yet all are united by a shared intention—to honor life in its many forms. Through explorations of memory, culture, relationships, and transformation, the artists reveal how celebration is more than a fleeting moment; it is a way of being present, attentive to what is sacred, transient, or deeply personal. Celebration reminds us that art itself is an expression of joy and resilience. It'‘s a tribute to where we have been, who we are, and the beauty of who we continue to become.
