HELLA GOOD DEEDS PRESENTS: "THE THREE TEMPLES"
An Immersive Art Experience Honoring Ancestors, Uplifting Descendants, and Uniting Community
We hold sacred the three temples of Hella Good Deeds and strive to honor our ancestors, descendants, and community. In this exhibition, featuring the powerful work of six AANHPI artists, we explore the ways in which cultural histories, personal identities, and collective dreams intersect to shape our shared experience. The three galleries — Ancestors, Descendants, and Community — invite us to reflect on the past, understand the present, and build a hopeful future together.
In Ancestors, explore themes of remembrance and cultural continuity:
Jimmy Cheng bridges the past and present with wood-burned classical Chinese imagery on everyday wooden objects—connecting history with daily rituals through craftsmanship and philosophy.
Hùng Lê uses fabric, photographs, and found objects to construct installations that examine identity and memory in the aftermath of the American War in Việt Nam.
Kenny Nguyen creates ceramic works that embrace imperfection and invite reflection—highlighting the meditative, tactile beauty of clay as a metaphor for personal growth.
In Descendants, witness personal narratives shaped by multicultural realities:
Travis Young reclaims Asian American identity through self-portraiture inspired by kung fu cinema, reflecting on life in Garden City, Kansas, and the search for cultural belonging.
Abby Linatoc Mendoza blends collage, painting, and sewing to explore inner child healing, queerness, and the power of collective care—drawing from both traditional art training and grassroots community work.
Heinrich Toh builds layered print works that merge ancestral memory and modern culture—illustrating the emotional terrain of immigration, cultural fusion, and personal evolution.
In Community, contribute your wish to the Wishing Tree—a living, growing centerpiece of the exhibit. As each visitor adds their hopes for peace, connection, and understanding, the tree becomes a shared symbol of unity and collective dreams.
